Milliken Brothers supply me with my canvases and have done so since I discovered them some years ago. They are the best bespoke stretched canvas suppliers on the island, in my opinion. Old school gentlemen, courteous and professional, nothing is ever a problem. They are consistent, reliable and accommodating when handling orders, and are very well priced for the product and service they provide.
The wood in the stretchers is well-seasoned, sturdy and never warps. Stretchers are precision constructions and the linen stretched cleanly and evenly. The pegs with a gentle tap will restore any tension lost through atmospheric change or handling of paint. The oil priming is excellent and the paint takes beautifully.
Milliken organise a delivery service and the cost is very reasonable. The canvases arrive well packed and always in perfect condition.
Painting may mean many things to many painters, but the common thread that unifies us is the craft that is central and time-honoured to the practice. It is so reassuring that both for practical ease and for posterity I am using from Milliken the best possible materials available. Once the canvas is on the easel, I can relax momentarily, confident I am making the best start. Milliken have provided me with a fine canvas – now the hard work begins
